SESC Welcomes Dr. Diane Hatchett

The SESC Board of Directors welcomed Dr. Diane Hatchett, new superintendent of Berea Independent School District, to its membership at its meeting on January 11, 2018. Dr. Hatchett assumed her new position as superintendent on January 1.

Districts Display Award Banners

The annual SESC Academic Award ceremony was held on November 10 ,2016 at the regular meeting of the SESC Board of Directors. Schools and districts were awarded banners for their performance on the 2016 K-PREP assessment. Banners were presented by SESC Executive Director David Johnson and Kentucky Commissioner of Education Dr. Stephen Pruitt. Recipients proudly display their banners in their districts. Seen here are banners displayed in the Whitley County Board of Education meeting room.

At its meeting on August 11, 2016, the SESC Board of Directors welcomed new superintendents Michael Rowe of Lincoln County Schools, Kay Dixon of Barbourville Independent Schools, and Dr. Amon Couch of Williamsburg Independent Schools. The superintendents will now serve as members of SESC’s decision-making board.

Students Attend Leader In Me Regional Student Showcase

Students from Dewitt Elementary School, Lay Elementary School, Middlesboro Elementary School, and Waynesburg Elementary School attended the second annual Leader In Me Regional Student Showcase in Corbin on April 26, 2016. Students gave presentations on LIM activities in their schools and participated in leadership activities led by Jonathan Catherman of Franklin-Covey.

SESC hosted its first New Teacher Job Fair in Corbin on April 26, 2016. Districts met with prospective teachers in an effort to fill school vacancies for the 2016-17 school year.

Students Attend CCR Transition Fair

SESC hosted the first of five College/Career Ready Transition Fairs on April 21, 2016 on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Over 80 students attended the event to learn more about college and career opportunities available after graduation from high school. Additional events will be held in other locations around the region in upcoming weeks.
